Studies on the Variation of the Development of Interlocular Cavitation within and Among Snap Bean Cultivars

Abstract

|
Variations of the development of interlocular cavitation(IC) were investigated within and among cultivars and in F©û crosses between resistant and susceptible snap bean cultivars. The results are summarized as follows:
1) IC incidence was greatly influenced by cultivars. Plant-to-plant variations in IC incidence wer also found within the same cultivar.
2) The above variations in IC within and among cultivars could be related with the morphological characteristics of individual plant or cultivar.
3) F©û plants between resistant and susceptible cultivars exhibited IC incidence similar to their maternal parents. However, it was also found that IC incidence could be greatly influenced by the internal and/or external factors in the F©û plants.
